6月19日 Summer's here!Wow, it's mid June already and I haven't been keeping up with what's happening here. So here's a summary.
I'm pretty well recovered from my back surgery now. It's good to be able work on the yard, ride a bike and shoot a few baskets again. Also, I'm okay to pick up my cameras and get back into photography again. However, there are a few side effects that might take awhile to resolve. There has been some nerve damage and part of my left foot is numb. The surgeon told me that it might take a year to get better. Also, there has been a lot of scarring of tissue and that might squeeze on the sciatic nerve causing some of the same symptoms I had when the disk was herniated. I've noticed, but I haven't had the excruciating pains that I've had the past year. I did have a pretty painful muscle cramp a few nights ago though, and the doctor said that was a normal part of healing and that I should do a lot of stretching and light excercising. But no high impact sports yet. Especially golf....how I miss swinging the clubs.
My friends David and Lisa are getting married next month. They've asked me to take pictures for them. This weekend I will be taking a few pre-wedding pictures with them. The unique thing about this wedding is it is not a typical Christian style church wedding. It will be a Wiccan Handfasting, a wedding ritual for the Wiccans. So I find myself doing some research as to what to capture in order for David and Lisa to remember their marriage 20-50 years from now.
We missed a whole month inbetween so:
Westcoat Fieros of BC went on their annual drive to Arlington Washington for a picnic with other Fiero clubs in the Pacific Northwest. I didn't go as I did not have the Fiero insured that weekend, but I did go and take a few pictures for the cars that went and did the drive. It sounds like they all had a good time, but this might be the last one to Arlington as there is discussion to move the annual picnic to another site. The problem is none of the American clubs want to bother with coming to Canada and the American clubs don't seem interested in organizing this thing anymore.
The weekend after was Pacific Performance Pontiac Car Club's annual all Pontiac Show n Shine. As the weather did not exactly cooperate, attendance was down. Once again the Fieros out numbered the Firebirds in attendance. But a lot of really nice cars were there. Again, I took a bunch of pictures. I had my Fiero out and it was nice to be driving a low slung mid-engined car again.
Also at the month of April, my wife's uncle passed on. God had granted him an extra 6 months to get his affairs in order as he wasn't expected to make it past October of last year. In the time since August of last year, he restored a car having asked me to ship parts to him. Imagine, a car we consider common here in North America is a collectible in places like the Philippines. The car he restored was an ol Ford Tempo. I was able to get some parts sent to him that I purchased from Magnem Engines in Burnaby BC. It helped that my friend Larry works there.
Shelby took her Royal Conservatory of Music piano exam last weekend. I think she did well. She's challenged me to advance my music studies too, so I'm learning to play the trumpet (and failing), as well as push my knowledge of guitar playing and music reading by learning to play Pagnini's Caprice#5 on the guitar. I don't think I'll EVER get to be as good as the video but, at least I should be able to hit the notes at a slightly slower pace. If I do ever get it, I'll record myself at link it. Watch this space (uh..maybe next year).
My uncle, Rev. Simon Tsoi came to visit last week. It was good to see him as I hadn't seen him in over a decade. He needs to get his own website as a Google search finds his name all over the place but none of himself. Uncle Simon has retired but is busier than ever travelling the world as a missionary evangelist. I found it very interesting that even though he is retired, he is constantly working an a different thesis paper on topics that interest him. So he is never bored.
I continue to pray for my friends who aren't doing so well physically, like Linda.
Thanks for reading.
Til next time.
